The Ramadan month that began on May 16 will continue for a month till June 14. Festivals, be it Ramadan, Diwali or Christmas, always reminds one of good food, sweets, new dresses, gifts, family get together and celebrations. What reminds me of Ramadan is the ‘Iftar’. Yummy delicious food available across the Bangalore city in designated places. The Mosque road and Frazer town is very well known places for Iftar. Muslim, Hindu, Christians and others equally relish the wide variety of food prepared during this time. People who have missed it must try it this time.
When and why Ramadan is celebrated?
Ramadan is celebrated on the 9th month of Islamic Calendar (Lunar calendar), in remembrance of the revelation of the Quran versus to Prophet Muhammad by Allah. (On regular basis we follow Gregorian calendar)
What is done during Ramadan?
Muslims fast during Ramadan. Fasting is considered as the one of the five pillars of Islam, along with the Muslim declaration of faith, daily prayer, charity, and performing the hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. They start their fasting before dawn and break it at dusk. Prayers are offered to god 5 times a day.
They break the fast with a sip of water and eating few dates at sunset just like how Prophet Mohammed did some 1,400 years ago. After a sunset prayer, a large feast known as “iftar” is shared with family and friends.

How does it end?
