Growing up listening to such a legend like Michael Jackson, brings back good old memories today. He was undeniably gifted with mysterious voice, gravity defying dancing style, and above all, the songs he wrote were profound, which was very relevant then and so it is now.
On his 60th birth anniversary today, 29th August, time to walk down the memory lane reminiscing how his pop music was part of everyone’s childhood days. He must be the only singer, whether music lover or not, to have touched upon everyone’s life in one way or the other.
With no internet or cable television, we would purchase the audio cassettes, video tapes and watch his videos repeatedly on VCRs. I have watched his ‘Thriller’ and ‘Bad’ albums many times. The ‘Triller’ still remains the world’s best selling album. I still get goosebumps while listening to his songs especially- ‘Remember the time’, ‘Black or White’, ‘We are the World’ and ‘Heal the World’. He was a gifted man.

“His commendable composition touched upon racism, environment, social issues, starvation in Africa, which is even pertinent today. Not just music, he was known for his dance. Even today every dance choreographed has at-least one Jackson’s step in it,” adds Ashvini.
“It’s more nostalgic than a fan… I remember performing as a group in school for the song -‘All I want to say is they don’t’ really care about us.’ That’s where it all began… I got hold of Michael Jackson video cassettes and watched them repeatedly,” remembers Peter Amalrajan, Techie and Author.
“It’s his confidence on stage that I remember about him. He ruled the stage. Everything else about the performance, other than him, was just a side prop. My favourites were ‘Thriller’, The way you make me feel and Beat It,” adds Peter.
“Michael Jackson reminds us of school days. We would wait for MTV countdown to watch his videos. His videos especially ‘Remember the time’ and ‘Black and White’ graphics and his dance were mesmerising. His song ‘Beat It’ is my all-time favourite referring to the violence of strong over the weak,” says Raj Kumar, Advocate.
“I have discovered his music through internet and love his earlier versions than his pop version. Jackson 5 album is my favorite…” says Kavya Gorur, Architect.
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, and dancer. Dubbed the “King of Pop”, he was one of the most popular entertainers in the world, and was the best-selling music artist during the year of his death.
