Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, Indian badminton player is the first Indian to make it in the world’s top 10 highest paid female athletes. Dominated by Tennis players, she is the first and only Indian to be listed in the top 10 list at 7th rank.
Cumulatively, the top ten highest-paid female athletes earned approximately $105 million in the past year, ending June 1, 2018.
PV Sindhu, 23 year old Badminton player gained popularity especially after winning a silver medal at 2016 Summer Olympics. Due to her popularity post Olympics she has become a favourite athlete of endorsers. Sindhu is the first Indian Athlete to win an Olympic silver medal in Badminton.
With the prize money of $500,000 and rest $8 million earned through endorsements, Sindhu’s total earning stood at $8.5 million. She has a sponsor roster with Bridgestone, Gatorade, Nokia, Panasonic, Reckitt Benckiser and a half-dozen other brands.
Asian Games: Sindhu reached finals to face the no.1 Tai Tzu Ying
In the ongoing Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta, Sindhu defeated Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in Semi-finals. She is the first Indian woman to enter the finals of Women’s singles at Asian Games. She will be facing no.1 Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan.
