October 5th celebrated as World Teacher’s Day

-

In India, we celebrate Teacher’s day on September 5th. Did you know October 5th is celebrated as ‘World Teacher’s Day’?

Also known as International Teacher’s Day, started to celebrate in 1994 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

In 2020, World Teachers’ Day will celebrate teachers with the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”.

With covid19, teachers have faced many challenges to adapt to the needs as quickly as possible to teach students. On this day, the world celebrates the teaching profession and take a stock of their achivements. It is also a day to draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind.

World Teachers’ Day is co-convened in partnership with UNICEF, the International Labour Organization and Education International.
