Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium – Must place to visit for children

Infinite sky, twinkling stars, beautiful moon, Sun has not left anyone bemused with its magnificent beauty. So was my 3-year-old son! I took him to Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium(JNP), Bangalore.

Started in 1989, the Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium campus is located at the heart of the Bangalore city. Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE) administers the JNP. It has a well maintained Science Park and a recreational park for children.

JNP is the right place for an inquisitive child about the space and solar system. The main attraction of the planetarium is the Sky Theatre, which projects a 45 minutes show on the Solar System. It has a centrally placed Special Projector, which simulates a beautiful twinkling night sky and the Solar System on the hemispherical dome. The Sun, movements of planets, comets, asteroids are very well captured. It is very mesmerising for children to get a sneak peek of simulated space.

Apart from Sky Theatre, JNP also imparts science education through informal method. Educational programmes are aimed at students from class III to graduate level. Click here to know more.

Instead of going to a mall or a movie, for a change, it is worthwhile to take children to the planetarium and introduce them to the mesmerising world. The ticket price for adults is Rs 50 and Children Rs 30.
